Interpretation of employers and employees

In the Working Conditions Act, the government sets out general regulations for safe and healthy working environments. Employers and employees are free to determine how they comply with these regulations and document their approach in a health and safety catalogue. For the University Medical Centers (umcs), the employers' organization (NFU) and employee organizations have jointly developed such a catalogue, which includes agreements on approximately fifteen occupational health and safety risks. The Dutch Labour Inspectorate reviews these agreements. The agreements concerning physical workload have been positively assessed. The Labour Inspectorate also monitors whether the umcs are adhering to these agreements.
