Standing and walking

When you have to stand a lot

This is how you look good:

  • knees slightly bent
  • head, neck and back straight
  • shoulders relaxed
  • stride
  • work surface below elbow height, or at the height of the work object
  • support arms (without pulling up the shoulders)

Do not stand for more than one hour at a time and a maximum of four hours per shift.

Wear shoes with a good fit. If necessary, use compression stockings. Walk a bit regularly or sit down for a while. For a change of standing, use a (high) work chair, an active (saddle) stool, standing support or take short rests.

If necessary, use a wobble mat / anti-fatigue mat to stand on.

Standing and pregnancy

For pregnant women, standing work is extra stressful. That is why the advice is to limit standing work to 2 hours a day from the 20th week. From the 30th week onwards, this is a maximum of 1 hour.

If you have to walk a lot

  • Wear shoes with a good fit.
  • Wear compression stockings if necessary.
  • Walk slowly, you can keep it up the longest.
  • Walk upright and sit down regularly.

Tip

Wissel zitten, staan en lopen zoveel mogelijk af.
