Bending, bending, squatting and kneeling

If something is too low to be done standing

Place the object at such a working height that you can work standing up, for example on an adjustable table.

If you do have to bend over

  • Get the work as close to you as possible.
  • Sit down with them if you can.
  • Bend from your hips and keep your back straight.
  • Stand up straight again as soon as possible and lean on a stool, for example.
  • Do not bend for more than one minute and only bend straight ahead.

If you do have to bend down

  • Get down on your knees and do it just to pick something up.
  • Support with one hand on a chair or table.
  • Avoid squatting. It is better to kneel on one knee.

If you have to kneel anyway

  • Kneel as little as possible and keep it short, a maximum of half a minute and at most once every ten minutes.
  • Kneel on one knee.
  • Use a knee pad or kneeling mat.
  • For example, support when standing up on a stool

If you are pregnant

During your pregnancy, avoid bending, squatting or kneeling as much as possible. In the last three months of your pregnancy, you should not squat, kneel, bend or operate foot pedals more than once an hour every day. Legal regulations also apply to lifting.
