Working safely and healthily

Shared responsibility

Your umc considers it important that you work in a safe and healthy working environment. That is why your umc strives to minimize exposure to biological agents. From a hygiene and infection prevention perspective, there are protocols on how to work safely and guidelines for contact, droplet, and/or airborne isolation.

If there is a risk of contracting an infectious disease at work and a vaccine is available, your umc will offer it to you.

Every university medical center has guidelines on how to act after unexpected exposure.

Finally, attention is also paid to preventing the spread of infectious diseases among patients and colleagues. This includes guidelines with advice on what to do if you yourself have an infectious disease. As an employee, you share responsibility for a healthy and safe working environment by striving to behave in a healthy manner at work.

Risk assessment and evaluation

As part of the Risk Inventory and Evaluation (RI&E), your umc assesses exposure to biological agents. The inventory focuses on the nature, extent, and duration of employee exposure. Specific attention is paid to:

  • Data on the biological agent (risk categories).
  • The type of work and sources of contamination.
  • The existing control measures to protect employees from exposure to biological agents.
  • The illnesses or other adverse effects that employees may suffer or have suffered.
  • Vulnerable groups of employees such as pregnant women, young people under the age of 18, the elderly, and people with immune system problems.
