Transfer

This is the best way to handle

  • Make sure you are well prepared. Use an aid for the less mobile patients. See mobility classes.
  • Avoid moving only if the patient requires too much effort.
  • Prepare the patient for the action, tell them what the intention is.
  • Make as much use as possible of the possibilities that the patient has to cooperate in the execution of the transfer.
  • Verbally and non-verbally, encourage the patient to cooperate as much as possible during the transfer.
  • Make use of aids as much as possible.
  • Provide an appropriate working height.
  • Make the travel distance as small as possible.
  • Make sure that the necessary material is easily accessible.
  • Make sure you have enough work space.
  • Stand in a step position as much as possible. Choose a starting position that keeps you well balanced.
  • Make use of your own body weight.
  • Fix the back as much as possible.
  • Keep the knees slightly bent.
  • Avoid a twisted position of the back during the action.
  • When turning during a transfer, rotate your entire body as one unit. Make sure your nose, hips, arms, and feet all face the same direction. Step with your feet in the direction of the turn to avoid twisting your torso.
  • Ensure an equal distribution of force over your arms.
